How Does Your Hospitality Measure Up? Part One

Director of Tennis
Harry Gilbert, former President of the USPTA, served as Director of Tennis at The Albany Resort.

Here on the educational side of the IOCD site, we have had the pleasure to work with Harry Gilbert. Gilbert is a former national president of the United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA). Gilbert brings to the Industry of Club Directors a forty-plus year history in, what he calls not the private members club industry, but the hospitality industry.

Gilbert has been Director of Tennis at the famed Albany Resort in the Bahamas, a resort owned by Tiger Woods and Ernie Els. He has also been, for over 25 years, the Director of Racquets at Waccabuc Country Club, where he is still serving the membership in Westchester County, New York.

Along with calling upon his roles at various clubs, he references books and experiences with several top American chefs in Manhattan along with theories of hospitality and how member service should look. He states that as club members, governors, and managers, we all tend to forget that member service is the proverbial angel on top of the tree.

This three-part series is exclusive for our IOCD members. We look forward to releasing parts two and three in the coming weeks.
